Birch kitchen for a loft in Milan

The design of a birch wood kitchen made from scratch, suiting the style of the loft into which it is fitted

The design of a kitchen in a new home is fundamental, it is not optional as the studio corner could be, and it wants a use suitable for sharing and conviviality. This makes it the real core of the house, maybe the most important space.

The design of a kitchen in a new home is fundamental, it is not optional as the studio corner could be, and it wants a use suitable for sharing and conviviality. This makes it the real core of the house, maybe the most important space.

In the last decades the social impact of the kitchen got stronger, making the project of this space deeply linked to the living. Today it is rare to find homes with a separate eat-in kitchen, while the open space is more common, and people use to make renovations to get it when it is not available. That’s because this scheme is more suitable to the needs of contemporary living. In this small loft in Milan, we designed the kitchen, which was made from scratch, in birch wood, for a total cost of 5000 euros.

The birch wood is a warm material, and when it is used a lot in the interior, it brings an add value, compared to other essences: it is bright, fair and very light.

Since the space is not very wide, the making of bespoke furniture allowed to gain advantages which would have not be possibile, such as having a small canteen. Moreover you get little touches of style here and there, like the shape on the stairs, which distinguishes the wall in a wonderful way.

The atmosphere is vintage, you can see it in the presence of the circle, which runs into the basin, handles, doors and drawers. The worktop is in white laminate, a classic combination, close to the Scandinavian style.
